BCDS Women & Girls Section
BCDS are keen to establish a Women & Girls section to
the club for 2017 following a big rise and expected demand in growth for this
area of the club in the years ahead. Following the clubs 2016 AGM the club is
keen to look and support ways that will allow our club to having a closer
gender split and further support our existing members.
The project is in its very early phases but at present the
clubs key objective in the coming months is to recruit at least one female lead
officer but ideally form a sub work group to look at and establish new ideas to
enhance female participation in both the sport and club.
British Cycling’s investment in the city with programmes
such as Breeze has seen interest grow in terms of Participation in Bristol and we feel
that it’s important for the club to offer the next natural level of support in
supporting the women to join a club and take their cycling even further.
The club already has a growing number of female members with
around 16% of the clubs total membership either women or girls. We have a
number of our younger members racing at a very high level on road & track
as well as an increasing number of novice girls starting out through our
Go-Ride programme so we naturally want to see these successes continue across
other areas of the clubs activities such as in coaching & leadership on
club rides.
The club are looking to access funding to help provide the
costs towards training identified women to help support them in these roles and
help us deliver our Women & Girls strategy.
