Meet this Years Riders

13 riders will make up the BCDS Youth Academy for the 2017 season, many returning after a successful first year with the programme along with others from both in and outside of the club all working hard to develop their cycling and take it to the next level.

The riders were selected back in November but with riders still registered with other clubs the announcement was delayed until now. Riders were selected after a testing session at Newport Velodrome on the track and a tough 3min Watt bike test looking at just how hard the riders could push themselves.
The selected riders will now receive coaching on a one to one basis from Dan Coast and support in planning the races in which they will compete in over road and track during 2017 with the aim of qualifying riders to the regional teams for inter-regional and UK school games later this year.

Academy Manager Dan Coast said - "Weíve seen a big increase in the size of the Academy for 2017 with more applications and more riders able to hit the required standards needed to be part of the programme. From the clubs own perspective itís great to see so many of the riders on the academy have been a product of the clubs Go-Ride sessions.Ē

The Youth A & B (U14-U16) will complete in a number of events at both regional and national level whilst also learning how to race and train as part of a team that will help aid them in their own developments both on and off the bike, a grounding that has helped to develop a number of riders who have now gone onto bigger things in the sport.
We look forward to following the riderís progress this season.
